Faqs
Is it a series? Are there more books coming?
Yes! Skyclimbers is the first in a trilogy. Book 2 will hit the shelves in 2028.
Is the world of Skyclimbers based on an actual city?
Not one city but a creative mishmash of many real cities, and some that just live in my head. I’ve been lucky enough to travel extensively - by my best count I’ve been to nearly 40 countries in as many years - and all the marvellous cities I’ve visited still live in my head, inspiring the world of Skyclimbers.
Can you come and talk at my school / workplace / bookshop?
I love public speaking, teaching, and generally chatting with people about books and author life. If you reach out through the form on this website to ask about bookings, appearance fees, and local and international availability, my assistant will get back to you asap.
How do you get your hair to do that?
Sheer, unyielding force of personality. (And a hairdryer.)
What are some of your favourite books?
This is, quite obviously, an impossible question. But that’s never held me back before, so here goes…
Some of my favourites as a child:
The Hobbit by J R R Tolkein
Everything by Roald Dahl (but Matilda is my favourite)
Everything by Tamora Pierce
The work of David Eddings (my gateway to fantasy books)
The work of Michael Crichton (my gateway to science fiction) especially Jurassic Park, and Sphere (which absolutely terrified me, it is not a children’s book!)
Some of my favourites as an adult:
The Illuminae Cycle by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan
Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh
Bitterblue (and absolutely everything else) by Kristen Cashore
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
The collected works of Holly Black
Miss Fisher’s murder mystery series by Kerry Greenwood
Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances (The Toll Gate is my favourite, but it has a lot of competition)
Shakespeare (yes really)
The collected short stories of Kelly Link
The collected works of Dorothy Sayers (yes I have a crush on Lord Peter Wimsey - don’t you?)
The extraordinarily brilliant murder mysteries of one Dame Agatha Christie
